This life-size bronze piece, and the broader interactive Keep Going project built around it, invites students to pass along the same encouragement Ryan gave so freely: the reminder to keep going, even when the fight isn't fair.
Ryan fought a year-long legal and administrative battle just to attend school after being diagnosed with AIDS, facing a community that chose fear over fact—and did it with a courage and kindness that changed how the world understood the disease.
“AIDS can destroy a family if you let it, but luckily for my sister and me, Mom taught us to keep going. Don't give up, be proud of who you are, and never feel sorry for yourself.”
